Do you love lists? Ranker.com, the leading platform for ranking just about everything, seeks a full-time employee to join our scalable content operation. You’ll be designing projects in which you personally assemble, keep current, and oversee freelance writers in creating authoritative, informative lists on topics ranging from current pop culture trends to golfers and tennis players to coffee maker brands. (Like we said, everything!)
The ideal candidate has some professional experience working for a content publisher like Ranker, in which you’ve proven your ability to develop efficient systems and execute. You love organizing ideas and data and problem-solving ways to save time and improve quality. You are a self-starter who will embrace our start-up culture, and throw yourself into making our company a huge success.
But perhaps most importantly, you know a lot about a lot of things, and have a fast mind. You think fast, type fast, and work fast. You read quickly, retain it all, can quickly rattle off trivia, and when you need to look up new information you are able to do so quickly. You go relatively deep on a lot of topics, you can put together 70% of a definitive list of something granular off the top of your head, and perhaps just as importantly, you know when something doesn’t fit on a list.
As our Associate SEO Content Editor, you will:
Take ownership of existing lists as well as oversee new additions added to lists
Oversee freelance writers and check accuracy and authority of their information
Develop processes and systems to scale the operation
Edit copy for grammar and readability
What we’re looking for:
1 – 2 years commercial work experience in a content editorial role, preferably for a content publisher.
Broad knowledge of a ton of different topics, ranging from pop-culture, anime, sports, the newest shows on Netflix, etc… basically a one-stop shop of random trivia that that Internet loves to talk about, and the ability to come up with a decent ranking of various topics.
A good understanding of how people search for things (ie what people put into the Google search bar when they’re looking for trivia).
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college is a must; a degree in Communications, English, or similar is helpful, but really, we just want to know that you’ve done what it takes to get through college.
Must already be local to the Los Angeles area (we’re located in the Mid-Wilshire district).
This is a writing and copyediting role – video editors, photography editors, and others not well-versed in copyediting will not be considered.
Bonus points for:
SEO experience is a MAJOR plus, particularly those with modern SEO practices and familiarity with doing keyword research and understanding how to create content around it. You understand how people search for things, how to incorporate keywords into content without stuffing, and can create ideas for content based on what people are searching for on Google.
Experience with web analytical tools (ie Google Analytics).
Experience working for a startup or similarly fast-growing company – you already know the drill of what it’s like to work in a casual, fast-growing environment.
